Ventura County Animal Services rescued 22 dogs Monday from an encampment along the Oxnard river bottom. The Oxnard Animal Safety Unit had received reports of more than 20 dogs roaming near Fifth Street and Harbor Boulevard and the West Montalvo Oil Field. "We went down there, were able to secure all dogs and now they are here at the shelter," said Officer D. Wassil.
Eight of the 22 rescued dogs are puppies

Dog Days Search & Rescue is still trying to trap two more dogs in the oil field. Officials hope community members and rescue organizations will step forward to help find the dogs homes.
- Before adoption: spayed or neutered, vaccinated, flea treatment, microchip
- Where to look: the Ventura County Animal Services website, for profiles
- Shelter IDs: A856012 and A889781 through A889800
130%approximate capacity at both Ventura County Animal Services shelters
Both shelter locations are running at about that level, which raises concerns about space for incoming animals.
