Shi Young Kim, an art teacher at Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, was named Ventura County Teacher of the Year on May 27—she hugged her mother and received congratulations from a retired co-worker.

Ventura doctor Alon Steinberg led a study that linked police prone restraint to 229 deaths over ten years—many cases involved victims saying 'I can’t breathe' and over one-third of those were Black.
