Good morning, Oxnard. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 17th of July.

CRIME NEWS

  • Two Ventura County sheriff’s deputies — Anthony Malagon and Dylan Davis — were charged with felonies for beating an off-duty bouncer at a Camarillo bar in March, and Davis faces an additional domestic violence charge while both remain on leave with suspended peace officer certifications. Their arraignment was postponed until Aug 7, and the injured bouncer, an Oxnard resident, is suing the county for about $1 million in damages.  Ventura County Star
  • On July 10, federal agents raided Glass House Farms operations in Camarillo and Carpinteria, where a worker died after a 30-foot fall and protestors clashed with officers—Rep. Salud Carbajal and others challenged the use of force as ICE detained 361 people and recovered a firearm.  Ventura County Reporter
  • U.S. Army veteran and U.S. citizen George Retes said he was heading to work on July 10 when federal agents stopped him at Glass House Farms—ignoring his assertions of his citizenship, breaking his car window and spraying chemicals—and held him in custody for three days until his release on July 13, which made him miss his daughter’s birthday and now prompts a lawsuit as he recovers from burning pain.  Ventura County Star
