  • Jaime Alanís Garcia died two days after a July 10 ICE raid outside Camarillo, and his wife and daughter filed wrongful death claims on August 5 alleging that agents used excessive force (rubber bullets, tear gas, and stun guns) which caused his 30-foot fall from a cannabis greenhouse roof at Glass House Farms.  Ventura County Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gaslight Anthem are back with new songs and a resumed tour after their reunion in 2022; they recorded ten new tracks from Oct. 2022 to Jan. 2023 plus will perform with Dave Hause on Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. at Ventura Theater.  Ventura County Reporter
  • On Aug. 5, 2025, about a dozen couples gathered at the Ventura County Fair for the Blessing of the Marriages ceremony. Couples such as Kim and Stan Mantooth celebrated milestones ranging from eight to 57 years of marriage - marking a special day for community traditions.  Ventura County Star

  • Glass House Brands updated investors on its response to the July 10 immigration raid near Camarillo—saying it terminated ties with two farm labor contractors, hired a compliance consultant, and noted that ICE rescued 14 migrant children—with nine employee arrests and one third-party worker death, while Simi Valley police arrested four juveniles for a fight on Aug. 1 that involved racial slurs. The Ventura County Community Foundation also launched the Neighbors Support Fund to offer immediate relief to families and small businesses impacted by immigration enforcement and falling school attendance.  Ventura County Reporter
