CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Oxnard man Dustin Ronald Alba was sentenced to 111 years to life for the rape and sexual assault of five women after a June 9th jury convicted him on nine felony counts using evidence from cases spanning 2012–2020 — four victims gave impact statements and prosecutors cited multiple aggravating factors. - ➤ Ventura County Sheriff's deputies Dylan Davis and Anthony Malagon were arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on Aug. 7 for felony charges stemming from an off-duty altercation at a Camarillo bar. Ventura County Star
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, a fast-moving wildfire near Lake Piru burned 600 acres in a canyon southeast of the lake—firefighters used helicopters and fixed-wing planes to drop water on the blaze. Authorities ordered evacuations for the Lake Piru Recreation Area and nearby roads as high winds and heat kept the danger high. Ventura County Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Housing Trust Fund Ventura County received a $5-million grant from the Southern California Association of Governments on July 30 to create a long-term loan program for affordable housing developers. The program will offer 15- to 18-year loans for three to five projects over the next five years + help developers secure Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and build rental units on surplus land. - ➤ A photo gallery shows several Ventura County public golf courses for players, including Soule Park in Ojai, the reopened Buenaventura in Ventura, Los Robles Greens and Rustic Canyon in Moorpark, and Sterling Hills in Camarillo.
