Oxnard defendants Leann Guzman, 27, and Richard Mendez, 26, were convicted of a violent carjacking and robbery on March 20 when they forced a driver to leave his vehicle—Guzman is scheduled for sentencing on August 22 at 9:00 a.m. and Mendez on August 25 at 9:00 a.m.

The Ventura County Superior Court now employs 11 court reporters—a 60% decline in five years—that has led to delays in felony and juvenile cases when reporters are scarce.
The court is actively recruiting new staff with sign-on bonuses and salary increases to keep legal proceedings accurately recorded.
