COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents of Hollywood Beach near Oxnard voiced anger over a CCC-approved plan by the USACE to reshape 18 acres of sand dunes and install wood-post and rope fences—neighbors said they learned of the plan too late and raised their concerns at a July 24 online meeting. USACE stated it will review community feedback as the project, set for fiscal year 2026, is reevaluated.  Ventura County Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko and Public Defender Claudia Bautista informed residents that a recent Ninth Circuit ruling bars federal agents from stopping individuals based solely on race, language, or occupation — agents must have clear, specific facts before detaining someone. The officials said they will continue to update the community on new immigration legal rights and procedures.  Vida Newspaper

HEALTH NEWS

  • Public health officials reported that a person at McKevett Elementary Academy in Santa Paula tested positive for tuberculosis and is being checked for possible exposure. Testing for close contacts will begin next week and a community meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m.—all measures focus on safeguarding student and staff health.  Ventura County Star

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Panorama Apartments in Oxnard's Riverpark neighborhood welcomed its first tenants on Aug. 4 while construction crews continued to finalize details for the 333-unit complex, which offers a rooftop deck with a view of the Santa Clara River—completion updates will be shared soon.  Ventura County Star
