- ➤ On August 26th, Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko and law enforcement charged nine defendants for their roles in the largest Home Depot organized retail theft conspiracy—accused of stealing millions in merchandise across multiple counties with several, including ringleader David Ahl, held on bail up to $500,000. - ➤ Four Ventura County residents were arrested in August for their alleged involvement in a robbery at a Fillmore gas station that took place shortly after midnight on June 8—three face charges in Superior Court while a 33-year-old from Oxnard was released for medical reasons. Ventura County Star
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ventura County supervisors voted on Aug. 26 to reject Supervisor Lopez’s proposals for an immigration legal aid fund due to budget issues—hundreds of community members had urged support. They approved steps to direct staff to draft policies and add immigration concerns to the county agenda—although the legal aid fund motion failed by a 3—2 vote. Ventura County Star
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ventura County Medical Center's residency program, which has trained doctors since 1928, has been rated second nationwide in reputation by a Doximity evaluation — a ranking that reflects its shift from UCLA to USC’s Keck School of Medicine and its addition of a new fourth year of training. Hospital leaders say the high ranking helps attract skilled physicians who stay to work and teach in the local health system. Ventura County Star
