The Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved a new rule that makes it illegal for anyone who is not a licensed recycler to hold a loose catalytic converter in unincorporated areas—those caught may face up to one year in jail or a $1,000 fine, or both.
County Counsel will work with the Sheriff’s Office to form a local plan to stop the rise in catalytic converter thefts, and the rule will take effect 30 days after its adoption.
