GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ICE has operated the Camarillo field office since 2012—local volunteer Joseph Dobzynski and his team, including his dog Pedro, monitor the site daily. About 250 protesters gathered on July 14 to oppose enforcement actions such as the raid at Glass House Farms on July 10.  Ventura County Star
  • Caltrans and Ventura County projects have caused road closures and traffic delays across Ventura County; Highway 33 north of Ojai has been fully closed at North Fork Matilija Creek Bridge since 10 p.m. Sept.19 and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Sept.22. Work on SR 118 in Moorpark and SR 232 in Oxnard will lead to lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept.22 to Sept.26 while Ventura Road in Oxnard will see northbound lane closures for six weeks until Oct.18 (drivers are advised to use alternate routes).  Ventura County Star

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rain and warm weather in Ventura County have created spots for mosquitoes to breed that may spread West Nile and other diseases, though no human cases have been reported locally. Health officials warn residents to remove standing water and use repellent as the mosquito season will extend into October—prompting calls for caution.  Ventura County Star
