COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ventura County Neighbors Support Fund announced a new matching opportunity from the Brokaw Family Fund that will match donations up to $50,000 to help local families, small businesses, and essential services during sudden hardships—this effort has already distributed $134,000 in grants and raised over $454,000 in total.  Vida Newspaper
  • The Oxnard Police Department Mounted Unit and Foundation hosted their second fundraiser on November 6 at Magnavino Cellars+ the venue filled with local residents, officers, and sponsors. Donations will support horse care and training+ the unit will use the funds to boost community patrols and engagement.  Vida Newspaper

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Port of Hueneme signed a memorandum of understanding with Port of Paita in Peru on Oct. 21 at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum—following a trade tour of Ventura County on Oct. 13. Officials said the agreement builds on discussions that began in 2024 to expand trade and share port management practices that will benefit both regions.  Ventura County Reporter

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Nov.4, Agromin and Harrison Industries opened the $16 million Mountain View Organics Waste Processing Facility in Oxnard to turn discarded food into a paste that is sent to a digester in Victorville for conversion into natural gas and compostable material — the plant currently processes 30 tons daily and supports state food diversion rules ahead of America Recycles Day on Nov.15.  Ventura County Reporter
  • Ventura County Fire Department investigators determined that extreme winds dislodged hot tire debris from a malfunctioning tractor—igniting the Balcom Fire that grew into the 20,000-acre Mountain Fire which damaged 369 structures on Nov. 6. Darren Kettle and his family lost their Camarillo home in the blaze and have since moved on, while local officials continue to offer support to those affected.  Ventura County Reporter
